Howdy Tony and Pam. We have moved into Maryland and even though these people know who you are they have no idea what you are. If you get up this way Kathy and I will be glad to look after you for a while. They don,t have a HALEYLAND up here either. I'll work on that one. Tell the Fox Man and Kathy hello and come up this way to play soon. Dave and the gang

I have always loved your music since I first heard Manzanita. When I moved house I put a whole bunch of cd's & records at the back of the storage unit I used, making it impossible to get to them without puling out a whole house full of stuff! So they sat there for 2 years. Now I have them & boy, can I tell you how much I missed listening to my Tony rice collection!.So i just want to say thanks to Tony & all the fine musicians who make this great heartfelt music.please come on down to Australia, perhaps do a few shows at the Byron Bay Blues festival in New South Wales, or the Port Fairey Folk festival in Victoria. We'd love to see you all.

I hope nobody minds this. A picker of old time music is very ill. Hylo Brown, who's a fellow east kentuckian, is in the final stages of cancer. I just heard this on a radio bluegrass show. If you'd like to write him or mail a card, please send to: Frank Hylo Brown 45 Walnut Street Apt. 203 Mechanicsburg, OH 43044 I hope the people that run this site understand and don't mind. Thank you very much. God bless Tony Rice.

As someone who sorts of bounces in and out of this scene (kind of like Tigger), I was really pleased to see you have a web site up, and thanks for the recent update, Kathi! Appreciate the links, too. May the Lord continue to bless you, Tony. I hope your recovery is continuing to progress. I'd read somewhere that your diagnosis was muscular in nature, and given your history of forward head posture at the microphone and automobile induced trauma, this did not surprise me. I believe a good neuromuscular therapist, if you can find one, would accelerate your recovery. Thanks for all the great music over the years--John

Hi, You are the man; allways have plenty of qustions for you. Like......why is the song Neon Tetra thats on your C.D. "Devlin" not the same song as Neon Tetra on your tape/L.P. "Mar West"? Two different mellodies? More importantly, I and severial other "tony clones" for lack of a better word; have charted severial transcriptions of your music. We would like to know if there is any way to get this music checked, or corected by someone. Hopefully the man himself. Maybe a page on the web-sight were you put some of your music up to be read, or your corrections of ours. Either way we are tired of being "Tony Haaaks" using the same old canned Tony rips that have been publish and poorly regergetated for years. Thanks for the music and Peace to yours. I will never stop listening. Michael Godwin

Hey Tony, I, too, just returned from your Birchmiere show, and, as usual, I felt that it was the best, most balanced show out there. You, as well as your cohorts conveyed a feeling of good feeling, and mutual respect amonst yourselves. Your picking, in particular, I found to be both fabulous, tone-perfect, as well as understated. Long live the "bone". Thanks, again for a great evening of "the real shit". Regards, Bill Colonna

Dear Tony, Let me get in line to express my admiration for both you and your music. Long time fan, long time listener, blah, blah. The first time I heard your music was on a D.C. PBS FM station, which will remain nameless, on their bluegrass show. By the way, the show was jettisoned from our airwaves, in lieu of yet another annoying, whiney liber talk shoe. What, me need more of those? Rhetorical question. Anyway, I digress. The song was "Summer Wages" off "The New South" collection. When I finally regained my senses, I said to myself: "Self that's about it for the smarmy rock and roll music that I had been subjected to up to this point. I gotta get with this bluegrass." I have been fortunate to meet you, several times, through your friend and mine, the ubiquitous Paul Benson. You even managed to remember my name, though God knows how. Now for the genuflecting. I think that you epitomize the essence of "Southern Aristocracy, and are indeed a true gentleman. Aside from being one cool MoFo. And that's before we get to the music. There, your charm, elegance and downright kickass style grace any genre that you undertake. Please continue tocontinue to contribute your talents to a sometimes otherwise maudlin and dreary musical landscape, that The Powers That Be in the industry funnel down to us miserable wretches, otherwise known as the people. There, Is that sappy enough? Stay well, and you can be damn sure that I will be in the audience for your your show soon at the Birchmiere, and will clap and hoot until I injure myself, or others, or am escorted fron the premises. Stay Cool, and say "Hi" to that nut Wyatt for me. Bright Moments, Bill Colonna

I have been a guitar picker, bluegrass lover, and Tony Rice fan since back around 1970. I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with you on several occasions when you were performing regularly at the Holiday Inn in Lexington, KY back in the early 70's while I was attending UK. Plus, I met you a couple of times over at my uncle's studio (Cecil Jones) . . . Lemco Records I believe it was called. I just want to say thank you Tony, for being you, and for sharing with all of us mortals your incredible array of musical works and unbelievable talent. God bless you. Take care and if you're ever in the Orlando area, please look me up. Ken Jones

Tony, Glad to finally visit your site. When are you going to be in California again? I've got some great photos from the Sam Bush benefit from 1981 at the GAMH in SF. I still remember my visit with my buddy Steve to your pad in Corte Madera to talk about a guitar tab book he put together just for himself. I got to hear an unreleased copy of The Bluegrass Album Vol. II. I was there for three hours with my SLR and never took one picture; my biggest regret. Any way, thanks for all the great music. Hope you sing again before you get to heaven. Happy holidays!

Tony, It's been a while since we talked. I think the last time was in Advance NC 1999. Still hanging around over here at the police department and still picking a little grass. I still miss Duffey, but that's something we all got to face. Hope things are going well for you. Hope the throat is geting better. Catch you sometime later down the road. If you get over this way, the phone number is still the same. Julian

The first time I saw Tony Rice play live was in 1994 in Owensboro, KY at the IBMA fan fest on a cold and miserable Saturday night. I'm not sure what impressed me more - his flat-out ability on the guitar or hearing him play at his level under those conditions. Whatever the case I came away from that festival a devotee of Tony Rice and his music. Immersing myself in his recordings and his mystique the result is I'm a better guitar player than I would've been without Tony's influence. I'll admit that myself, and 99.9% of all guitar players, won't ever be on his level, but it's really not about that. His musicianship continues to motivate me to play and have fun. I can't say that any other entertainer or musician does that for me. Thanks Tony!!

Tony: We met at merlefest this year. I was a performer there and had just done the mainstage shortly before you arrived. I believe we have many friends in common, especially in the Moncton NB region. At any rate, I gave you a couple of my albums at your hotel room just before you left the festival and was wondering if you have had a chance to give them a listen. Also I would like to forward you a copy of my latest disc which is a guitar instrumental album. It ends with a version of Whispers of the North that I used as dual tribute to yourself and Lightfoot. Anyway, Hope you're well and would love to work with you sometime. Let me know if you actually receive this, if you can. God Bless JP

Thanks for the web site...really well done. Congratulations! Maybe you could comment on Tony's health without getting too personal...many of us who have been fans since the beginning are concerned about his inability to sing any longer and would be pleased with a status report. Good luck & keep up the good work!

Elegant site; functional too, nice job. I'm not much on public comment myself, but in this case ... I would like to mention that Unit of Measure is still on the top of my Tony Rice greatest hits. Though all your music has alot to offer, I love that record, and Backwaters, for the sonic genius and lovely melodies. Of all your collaborations I guess it's you and Billy thats the keystone eh? You have always emphasized 'integrity' in your recordings and approach to music, and as I struggle to make some music of my own, I know I can always refer to you and your sound, to reset myself. Thanks again and again, for many things ... and keep 'em commin'.

Glad to see your site up and running!! You have been an inspiration since your days with J.D. Crowe and the New South. I've seen you only once (Bluegrass Classic, Columbus Ohio, July 2000)but look forward to many, many more. Your taste, style, tone and approach unmatched. There are many excellent players out there, but 99% of the Acoustic Flatpickers that exist would name you as a major influence. I'd love to hear you, Bela Fleck, Dawg Grisman, Jerry Douglas, and Mark Schatz put together an instrumental album. Keep Pickin.

Back in the mid 70's my husband lived in California. His greatest memory is the night that you were giving guitar lessons in the basment of some restaurant/bar. He was the only one that showed up, and got to have a one on one lesson with you. I think that was the single best moment of his life. Thanks for all of the great music.

OK, Grant! I am hearing you! I must apologize for not having updated the "What's New" section lately and I claim full responsibility. The holiday rush is taking over my life in some respects and I've slowed down in others. I'll make an attempt to do better. We currently have someone working on some new designs for t-shirts and appreciate any suggestions, although whether an idea is used or not will have to be determined by Tony. Thanks for your site visit and please feel free to e-mail me directly with further ideas for TR merchandise. Peace back at ya' and God bless. I am a devoted fan, to say the least. You have been the biggest inspiration and teacher on the guitar to me as a fellow guitarist. Two suggestions if I may venture out. 1 Why not another Rice and Skaggs album? 2 how about a Tony Rice christmas album? My most current CD of yours is Blake and Rice 2. I don't know if you customarily give secrets away, but what is the chord progression on georgie? So far I have only come up with A minor, G, and E, but it seems like I am missing a chord or two. My chords work, but it is not quite the same.

"Hi-Tone" ___I just read the article "Where Does An Old River Man Go," by Derek Halsey, http://www.gritz.net and it is so moving, I cried. I miss my friend John Hartford. John and his son Jamie, Elmer Bird, Robin Kessinger and Joe Dobbs, were at a Concert at Ritter Park in my hometown, Huntington, West Virginia, July 1990. It was a perfect setting for -JH. Ritter Park overlooks the city and the mighty Ohio flows on by. I don't know who had more fun, the crowd or the actual 'players.' The Cicada sang right along with us in one of John's sing-a-long songs. I'll never forget his laughter. I dedicated an entire album to "Gentle On My Mind" John, on one of my 80 Websites. I know you will love Halsey's easy-flowing tribute to a Legend and Friend. Take a "sec" to look it over. I'm asking Derek to add it to most of my sites if he will. I know John would just smile and say, "Shucks!" PS: Hi to Eightstrings from Cj1.

hey, I am a bluegrass picker going on 5 years now. I bought a Martin DM at Merlefest and that started me to playing b-grass. A year after I got my guitar I saw Tony Rice at Merlefest right before he was to go on stage and play. I asked if he would sign my Martin and he did. everytime i play with some folks that signature gives me something to aspire to. i just wanted to thank him for taking the time to do that for me. Every guitar picker that I hear uses something from Tony Rice. Thanks, Brent Wiggins

I want to thank Tony (and Todd, Darol, and Mike) for the fine show at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis on 12/2/01. The Cedar is a great place to see anybody and this show was no exception. I saw Tony there with Peter Rowan a couple years ago and enjoyed it very much. Although Tony's singing is sadly missed, his guitar still rings true. Best of luck in the future and hope you all enjoyed your visit to Minneapolis.

And a followup -- what's the story behind the enlarged soundhole on the D-28? I've heard so many urban legends about this...everything from "it was carved out by a Boy Scout with a pocket knife," to "it was damaged on the bass side and a luthier carved it out," to ... on and on and on. Even some wilder ones than that! Was that enlarged sound hole original, or was it a Clarence White/Tony Rice modification?

After so many years of listening to Tony's albums, I was thrilled to have the chance to see him live in Chicago this past Friday night. I was stunned. Amazed. Blown through the back wall of the Old Town School of Folk Music. And I cursed myself for not making the effort to see Tony live more often; I've been listening to him since I was 13, and I'm now in my mid-'30s. What did I learn? That there's more economy in his playing than I thought possible -- not a single wasted physical effort. Though I'm still curious as to how he knocks that kind of sound out of an axe with such low action! It's inspired me to take my 1966 Martin D-28 back out of the closet -- I gave up music for a different career many years ago, but spent much of my teens slowing down Rice albums to 16 RPM to steal the licks. Yeah, I still remember the solos to Gasology...weird how that kind of stuff never goes away... Friday night, I learned more than a thing or two about timing, tone .. and taste. Here's hoping your voice returns, Tony. Rich Strong Chicago

Tony Rice, you are a god...your my god. Im 17 years old and I love your music, your bluegrass, and jazz. I also play bluegrass music and for the 9 years I've been playing I still cannot understand all your licks. I would love to see you in concert but you have never (to my knowledge) came and played around southwestern, Virginia. (not that I'm tring to tell a great like you what to do but) If you would be so kind to find a place close to here that you could perform for your fans that would be great. Like I was saying I love your music and all your licks. I wish you the best of luck with your career and hopefully someday soon I'll be one of those young fans in the crowd in aahhh over your licks. From Me and all your friends in this part of the world. YOUR THE GREATEST FLAT-PICKER EVER.

Tony Rice, the best acoustic guitar player in the world. I couldn't believe he would come to my small hometown in rural southern Ohio. I stood in front of the stage, and watched Tony, take a long jazz break on the martin, can he, will he be able to make it back? Yes!, and the smiles and winks of the other musicians, as he like no other can accomplish this. Thanks for coming to the people. Live recording, please!

Dear Mr. Rice, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to sign my D-16 backstage(even though I interupted you I think) at the Sheldon on that wonderful oct. evening! It was an unforgetable show and it will be unforgetable meeting you in person and shaking the hand that belts out that Heavenly Sound! I had thought months before the show it would be amazing to be able to meet you at the show, and it turned out to be one up on that. Double Wammy! Nothing inspires me more to succeed in my music than your music, it suits me in any mood. Not many musicians can do that in my opinion. I feel very fortunate to have met you given the fact that people would pay for the opportunity. I will have that guitar for a long time to come and it inspires me every time I pick it up, I plan on giving it to one of my children someday, when I have some anyway. I can guarantee you one thing, you'll never see it on Ebay thats for sure!! Again I thank you for being so polite when I snuck in the back door to meet you, I couldn't pass up the chance! P.S. Your music is and allways will inspire us all for a long time to come, so pick on brother ! Erik

I cannot imagine the number of hours I have spent in the last 15 years listening to your recordings. I've driven countless Kentucky miles with you in the tape player. I don't think you can realize the influence who've had on so many people. Your playing gripped me when I first began to play. I love the power and the tone. Thank you Tony.

Hey there kids, I'll tell you what, it sure is nice to have this website up. I am writing to say to Mr. Tony damn Rice that he is the measure of acoustic guitar players. My listening experience usually goes something to the effect of: " oh do you hear that honey? ( to my wife) they are playing like Tony" or " you can tell they listened to a lot of Tony Rice" It drives her nuts. Any way, thanks for all the good music. I'll be hearing you at the Suwannee springfest in March 2002. One more thing...you ever think of doing an album with ol Sam Pacetti down there in St. Augustine? Just a thought.... be well and do good work! Mack

Tony, It's been 32 years since you, Garland Shuping and I had that great band together. We played non-stop perfecting the "Rice" sound, competing in the best of the NC Fiddler's Conventions and then you left us for the Alliance. The rest we say is history. You've made it and have left a legacy in your lifetime. Your new effort with Running Wild just shows you have it, always did have and will keep it for a long time to come. Just spent a couple of hours listening to Ron Richardson picking with John Yates in Taylors Valley, Va. What a blessing to hear good picking from the heart, that Ron says is inspired by your great picking. I just purchased Wyatt's new Christmas CD, it is really a work of art. John says he has spoken to you several times on the phone, but has never met you in person. He speaks very highly of your brother Wyatt. If you are ever in Taylors Valley visiting with Wyatt, we would like to meet you also. Keep picking and inspiring Bluegrass fans and pickers everywhere. Best Regards, Ron Richardson Mike Roark

Just a quick one to let you know how much we are enjoying Unit of Measure. And what an amazing version of London Derriere - I thought covering this was a lost cause. We had been thinking about coming to Merlefest 2002 but got a bit hesitant after 11 September, but UOM sorted us out and we are looking forward to seeing you live from Row 36 in April. Have you thought about coming to Australia? Bela is about the only bluegrass/newgrass/ spacegrass heavy who has been here and he went down a treat - in fact so did the whole band. It would be great to see more of you. If making contact with the right people is a problem, I might be able to help out. I did some legwork for Songtone who represent Bill Frisell and as a result, we should see him here in Jan 03. Best wishes RN

I think I have every recording and video tape you have ever done, Tony--at least the one's that are commercially available. Most of them are gifts from my old high school buddy, William Scott McFarland, who has his own copies of each and every one of your efforts (in fact, he just told me this evening about your very cool website). We both hope you will continue to deliver what we think is the finest flatpicking anywhere. BTW, are you planning any concerts for central California? If so, we would sure like to say hello and shake your hand again. One final question for you, Tony--what process do you use to take the rough edge off of tortise shell picks? I can't seem to get them to the same condition as when they are new. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks again for your inspiring flatpicking, Tony. Mr. Rice, I failed to mention earlier, I was wondering about your Martin, the one previously owned by Clarence White. My very good friend Charles Tesh told me it was damaged in a flood not too long ago. I was wondering about the sound of the guitar. You may know Charles. He is a songwriter and a very good friend of Peter Rowan. He has also sold a few songs to Emmylou Harris. I would also like to have more information on your capo. I know its a Mckinney capo, but i cant find any information on him. thanks Aaron

Hello Mr. Rice Well i dont quite know how to start. I thouroughly enjoy your musical talent and listening as well as watching you play. I'm sure you here these same comments all the time, but you play with such ease and put so much feeling into your music. I currently play a D-42 Martin. My dad and a friend of his own and operate a music hall in downtown Wilkesboro. It's called Olde Town Pickin House. My dad plays bass. "T" __Hope new CD "Running Wild," RRH&P, on Rounder will Run Wild on Bluegrass and Country charts. I am so thankful to your brother Larry for joining my site and I let him Run Wild announcing it. Everyone on my site has a copy. There is one member named Kyle Estep who signed on your page, October20 as Tony Rice 77@ Hotmail. He also joined my site as Ricefan. This young man from Fenton, Michigan, has page after page of your work listed on his Web site trying to promote your music. He, as the rest of the world, is in total awe of your artistry He's just a "young pup," but I'll assure you, he is sincere. I admire him for working so hard to promote your music and he is dedicated to Bluegrass Music. There are so many young people who are not doing anything for anyone, they have no goals, but this fella is like a "spark plug." If you get time and you really want to, would you check out his site and send him some kind of message of "Thanks"? If you could do that for him, I'm sure he will "die happy." I don't often ask favors, but I've given him a page on my page to add his Tony Rice information. His site is http://tonyrice.cjb.net and his emails are ricefan and tonyrice77@hotmail.com. Or you can join my site as the REAL TONY RICE and post messages there the way Larry "Eightsrings" Rice does. My site is a NO NONSENSE home for Vintage Bluegrassers with tributes to Randall Hylton, your friend John Hartford, and many others who are no longer with us including the man I loved most, Bill Monroe. It is a clean family site dedicated to legends who do not get the honor and praise they deserve, including Bluegrass Women. Richard "fiddle this" Greene is our resident fiddle expert and your brother Larry is our Mandolin Magic expert. All my members are VIPS and my husband John McNeely with Melvin Goins & Windy Mountain is posted there as well as my site on MSN for Melvin Goins and his brother Ray, both recently inducted into The Bean Blossom Hall of Fame in September. Ask Pamela to take a look at the photo albums my Assistant Manager Rudy Baker made for Women In Bluegrass. Sorry this is so long. I still write just like I talk, a lot! ___Cj1

I am curious about 2 things. I want to learn to play like Tony Rice. I have been playing for 2 years, and I took some lessons, but my teacher was not into flatpicking style. Is there someone in the area that can teach me that you know of? Also, I would like to ask about Tony's hifi rig. Someone in Raleigh told me that he had Vandersteens. Is that true? I went down to demo some Vandersteens, and the disc I took was Unit of Measure. That's why it came up. . . Thanks! Tony is the greatest!! B

Finally, a web site for the undisputed heavyweight champion of the flatpick guitar. It's good to see, and Tony, gotta tell ya, I've never met you but certainly grew up listening to you (I'm 29). It'd be great if you could visit the Pittsburgh or Cleveland (GO BROWNS!) area sometime. Too bad you weren't in Cleveland when Bela and the Bluegrass Sessions tour came through -- I was really looking forward to seeing you with the guys. Anyway, this is great. Rock on, big guy.

Each time I pass the Holiday Inn here in Lexington, I can only think of the music that was once played there by an up and coming bluegrass band called J.D. Crowe and the New South. Here I am in the same town where you (Tony Rice) got your start. I think it would be great to see the fabulous-four (or Three) together again on one stage in the town where they began. Thanks a million.

As much as I love all Tony's works, esp. his immaculate playing, it was "Skaggs and Rice" that really got me hooked on Mr. Rice. I'm somewhat new to Bluegrass and acoustic flatpicking, so I VERY much look forward to seeing Tony if/when he comes out to the great Rocky Mountain area.

I was trying to find more info on a Tony Rice song and, after eventually linking via rounder.com, found this site. I'm impressed: easy to navigate and visually appealing. I saw the performance at the USC School of Music and was just blown away. "Shenandoah" about brought a tear to my eye. Most of what I have heard of Mr. Rice was from his work w/ Bela Fleck and David Grisman, etc., as I have recently fallen in love with the banjo. I've played guitar for ten years and mostly play electric stuff like Allman Bros. and Dead (improv stuff). It's always great to get that renewed inspiration from witnessing brilliance.

Tony, I am a huge fan who loves your music. My family always played in bluegrass band as I was growing up; it was my first real experience with music. I strayed away from acoustic music as I got older and have recently got back into bluegrass after picking up some Flatts and Scruggs a few years ago. Bluegrass and acoustic music, particularly the Pizza Tapes, have inspired me to pick up a guitar for the first time in my life. I'm wondering what you would recommend, along with the tons of practice, to become a better guitarist and hopefully someday have the chance to play in a quality bluegrass band of my own. What helped you to become the great that you are. Thanks for any tips or advice you may have, and keep up your excellent work, your music is beautiful. David Wells

Unit of Measure is not only a musical treasure, but the brief synopsis of each song makes it even more of a gem. Very seldom do fans/musicians get the opportunity to "pick" the brain of such talent on any level. Thanks for revealing your approach to your craft. It has changed the way I look at a guitar and has inspired me to venture into different styles of playing.

I've had the pleasure of seeing several times over the past few years and it always seems you get screwed by the sound guys. I just wanted to let you know that in my opinion your the Jimm Hindrex of acoustic guitar. I've been interest in your style of picking since I was 10 years old. I'm now 35 and am just getting started again picking as close to your style as I possibly can. I've purchased all of your instructional merchandice and am well pleased with everything. Thanks for the lessons... Yours Truly, Matt

What a nice surprise to meet you on the web! I started listening to Bluegrass in 1976 with "JD crowe and the New South" album. It was an earthquake in my life. But you are so rare in France, in live performances or in CD.... I saw you in Angers some years ago...It was great... If you come back to France for concerts, I am sure you will have a full audience... please, come to the "old continent", please, record a live album.. Bluegrassiously yours fred

Tony you are one of the biggest influences in my guitar picking.I am 17 and have been playing for about three years. And actually introduced to your music by my friend Zane Fairchild. Which is another influence of mine.No matter who it is , Zane,David Grier,Bryan Sutton, they are all indebted to you. Which is my opinion and i feel alot of others would agree.I just hope you know how much your music means to me and so many more. God bless and many more years of continued success you deserve it.

Terrific web site! Don't suppose there is a chance you could do a show in Alaska? It almost kills me to know you have ties to North Carolina now that I don't live there anymore. I grew up in NC, but have called Alaska home for the last six years. Oh well, hope all is well and you keep making your great music for years. I'll be listening from way up north.

Tony Been a big fan for many years now and just stumbled upon this website while surfing. All of us that call ourselves guitar players just take second string to you - you are the greatest! Missed you at Milton Harkey's festival this past summer - something about a crankbait in your hand - hope all got well. I have a picture with you from the first "Denton in Advance" festival - you were sitting back stage in your Lincoln and a buddy of mine and myself walked up and you were kind enough to talk to us and let us get some photos - that really meant a lot to me. I am planning on ordering a video when I finish this. Keep up the good work. Mike

I've been following Tony sporadically since the late eighties. I listen to ME and MY GUITAR and NATIVE AMERICAN at least once a week. My 5 and six year olds really like the music too. I've seen Tony perform with the Unit, with the late great John Duffy and the Seldom Scene, solo and with others-as recently as a few months ago at the State Theatre in Falls Ch. Va. I think I understand that Tony's voice is shot to hell. I'm a great fan of old timey music as well and that best authentic stuff is often performed by guys whose voices were long gone-but still authentic and full of passion and feeling and memory. I'd pay $100 to hear Tony in a very small venue whispering his voice to his guitar. Again, I don't know the circumstances of Tony's voice condition, but if there was any possibility of having Tony sing in any capacity -I would be very happy to hear it. Finally, I was always a little mystified with your liner notes on Fine as Fine Can Be. My 5 yr old son sings the first stanza with a whiskey voice and tries so hard to end on a tender whisper. But, my own wife's(?) shenanigans of late -her Urge for Going -have clarified the meaning for me anyhow. John Prine's Great Compromise sounds a lot different these days as well. It's interesting how this solid music can follow you everywhere and adapt to new situations while still retaining all the old associated memories-good and bad. God Bless.

Mine and about everyone else in this world trying to play bluegrass guitar I think would know who the GOD of bluegrass guitar is. Tony has inspired my playing immensely. He does things on the guitar that sound impossible until you see him do it. I hope there are many years left to hear what you keep doing. You keep inventing new ways of playing different licks that are incredible. I have done your workshop series of tapes and videos that made my playing go to a new level. I first heard you in 1978 or 79 on Manzanita and have been a big fan ever since. I am friends with Shannon and Kari Slaughter. Kari produced a picture of you and her hugging backstage somewhere. They play with Savannah Road. Keep up the awesome playing. Thanks, Johnny Tarver

Tony...I am 15 years old right now and have been listening to you ever since...well, I seriously cannot remember a time when my dad wasn't ever playing your albums. Without a doubt, you have the most beautiful voice I think I've ever heard. It's a shame that what happend to your voice had to happen to you. Your pickin talks for itself. You have the cleanest sound and you are so incredible. You truly are phenominal and as I like to describe you to my friends "The Hendrix of Flatpicking Guitar... only 10 times better". Between Vinyl, Tapes, and Cd's, we have your complete discography with the acception of 2 or 3 (even the article of you from frets, back in the day). I watch your movies and listen to your music every day. My dad also has your 'Cruz model. There is no doubt that I am your biggest and youngest fan ever. Please do some shows near Philidelphia or at the Birchmere someday. You are the man!
