GUEST BOOK ARCHIVE
JULY - SEPTEMBER 2006

These are the guestbook entries for July - September 2006.

Reading some of posts here, I felt the need to add something. Tony Rice isn't just an amazing guitar player, but he has arranged some of the best pieces of music I've ever heard. Realize, what he's accomplished being that it's an acoustic MEDIUM stringed guitar, it is amazing what he has done. I realize there were flatpickers before him (Clarence White, Doc Watson, Dan Crary, etc), but just look what Tony has done. You can hear people picking and be like "You know that guy studies Tony." Or "listen to that guy play just like Tony." I mean, it's a complete style. It's a style all it's own. Everyone LOVES it, and everyone wants to play it. Every single time I do ANYTHING that is Tony Rice-esque, I think "Damn I'm a badass!" It just feels cool. I mean, the blues/jazz pieces he's incorporated into Bluegrass is WHY I play it and love it. Now realize, I'm only 21 years old. Bluegrass is a very unattractive music for 99.99% of people my age, but the MAIN reason people my age and younger can love it when they do, is mainly because they've heard people like Tony Rice, and what they've done with Bluegrass. I mean, GOD BLESS Tony Rice and others like him, who are pushing Bluegrass past the standard traditional sense, and adding all these wonderfully amazing touches here and there. Afterall, that's what music is. Music is ever evolving and changing. I know for myself, there is no way I would be playing the guitar if it wasn't for Tony Rice. I mean, Dan Crary was my other favorite picker. But Tony Rice man, phew. I mean...It's just too cool. Tony - I know Florida is fairly undesirable place to play because it's kind of like driving straight down, then straight up again...but man, there are SOOO many people here and there are HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of fantastic gigs to play. You could book a rediculous amount of shows up and down Florida to make it worth your time. There are tons of government-oriented shows they put on all the time. Tell whoever does your booking to look into it. If you booked some shows here I could single handedly get 150+ people I know to come (not to mention the tons of other people who would come anyways).

When I was a boy, I would listen to Tony and think this is a good, nay a very good picker. Now I am a boy trapped inside a man's body and still think the same thing. Funny that no matter how much we grow and age, some things remain the same. Tony is the best. Todd Higgins rocks pretty hard and loud too. Thanks for reading

........I would like to share with Tonys fan's, some words that Rev. Doss spoke to us, at Tony`s Grandma`s grave side. He remarked that, "In this area, there were many familys noted to be great hunters, and their decandants had carried guns out into the world....But Grandma's decendants had gone out into the world carring guitars." Love to you all, Pamela

Bought "Tony Rice sings Gordon Lightfoot" after it was reviewed very favourably in Melbourne's better daily newspaper, The Age. Several years later, it's still one of the favourite half-a-dozen in my music collection.

Tony, Just wanted to say hello from Oklahoma, since there wasn't anyone on your web-site representing this state, and wanted to let you know there are still alot of your fans here that would like to see you. I was introduced to you at the Bluegrass & Chili Festival in Tulsa OK in the late 80's by Dale Davis. I purchased one of your signature series guitars from Santa Cruz in 1994 that is an East Indian after talking to you and Wyatt at the Festival and it has been a great axe. I am, however, looking for a used Tony Pro model, if I can run one down thats a Balanced Banjo Killer. Do you know of any one that has one like this for sale? I know your really busy but if you get a chance to reply I would be ever so greatfull. Many Thanks, Don

Tony, Thank you so very much for sharing your gift and talent of music with the world in which you live. Music is the Universal language, the one that every Nation on the earth relates to. My dearest friend Bruce introduced me to your music for which I am so grateful. Thank you for being willing to sacrifice time, money, emotional and phyical strength that others like myself can be blessed, encouraged and enriched by your labor of love.

Tony, I was watching a video of you with Bluegrass Alliance playing "One Tin Soldier" w/ Sam back in early 70's-Camp Springs. You were best then as you are now. Did the Alliance produce a record in that band configuration?

Tony, you are my all time hero ! Please forgive me for not being current with the events of the past few months. I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of your brother Larry. I lost my only brother in an automobile accident five years ago this coming September. I sympathize with how you must feel. God will allow you to heal in time. May His blessings be with you.

I first herd Tony as a boy and like a lot of people wanted to emulate him and his style. Now after all these years I have added my own style mixed with what Ive heard of his and call it myown. Tony got me really interested in the guitar and now I cant get enough. I have since started the Southwest Indiana Bluegrass Association and have Heros like Tony Rice to THANK. If it wasnt for you and your hard work and love for the guitar I dont even think I would be playing right now. Thank You so much. Your Friend Brian Crossen

Not sure about Devlin - but Manzanita is some sort of small bush/tree that TR saw out in CA, and named the tune accordingly.

Compilation Album - There is discussion about this record as we speak. No firm date, nor other details are available at this time. Once we hear the official word we will add it to the mailing list and What's New section. We can say that the music will come mostly from the 80's.

I wish to extend a sincere ?thank you? for the Quartet?s performance here last Sunday (2 July 2006). Where else can you see a show like this in such a setting? Theater at Lime Kiln is going through some challenging times at the moment. Rowan and Rice have performed here on the past to enthusiastic audiences. I sponsored the group two years ago here at Lime Kiln but missed it due a scheduling SNAFU, so it was an extra treat to see them return last Sunday. The weather was perfect and the sets were fantastic, highlighted by a duet of Rice with Bryn?s double bass. Thanks again and see you next year!! Best, Chuck Smith Lexington, VA
