These are the guestbook entries for October - December 2007.
Hi Tony. Best wishes for a Happy New Year. I'm practicing flatpicking and listening to many of your albums, some for the first time, for inspiration and sheer enjoyment. I'm determined to learn Manzanita. Thanks for putting out instructional material. It's really appreciated!
All the best,

Hey you owe us a performance here in Charleston WV for cancelling the show with Keel on Mountain Stage.
We all went to the show on a work night because you were playing there. Then to add to the letdown of you canceling we had to endure a set by Little Big Town this country band that had nothing going on either instrumentally or song writing wise!
Please come and play Mt Stage soon!
PS enjoyed you at Jormas and at Hamlin High School earlier in the year.

Tony, Had the day off without any family around. So, I took the opportunity to view your 1st two DVD's from Homespun and attempt to play along. (Will get to the 3rd one soon!) Just wanted to say what a pleasure it was/is to pick up various ideas as-well-as hear your stories. Also wanted to say "thanks" for a day well spent. You are a real inspiration to a lot of us! I wish you and yours a very merry Xmas. PS. Enjoyed your show this year with AKUS at the Fox in Atl. I'm hoping to see a CD and/or DVD soon(?)

Tony, I saw your show at the Satellite Ballroom in Charlottsville and I have to say that it was one of the best Tony Rice shows I've ever seen. You and Larry Keel are my two favorite guitarist and I had to make the road trip to see you both on the same stage. It was great! Your playing was really funky, especially on the Jerry Reed and Miles Davis songs.Hey fans, listen for Tony and Larry picking on the Mountain Stage soon.May God bless you this Christmas season and into the New Year. You are the Man!

bottom line here:any and everthing Tony Rice!!obviously your fan in every construe of that word!!
listen tony, i talked to Buck White a spell back in the summer at a gospel sing and meet out here and he tells me you lost your voice. (the girls and ricky was there too) well i knowed you was havin' trouble with it but not to the point you couldn't sing and record with it.your voice and the bone with your ability to work 'em both surely raised the bar and it aint been topped yet, least in this ole guitar pickers ears. wellsir Buck says your still workin and that's a good thing.so prayers for you wyatt larry and the rest of your family! keepa hammerin' hoss we'll be listenin specialy me. kindest regards

Tony, been a fan since I was very young. Because we looked alike and had similar music tastes, as well as the fact that my last name is also Rice many thought I was related to you. Perhaps so. I wouldn't know. I did grow up in West Virginia. Was just browsing and found you had a web site. Just thought I'd stop in and tell you I have followed your career and your music and been influenced by it greatly. I make folding knives and work them now. Been quite good at it but still have a guitar in the corner of my room. Thanks for the memories.

I always thought Tony played on Hee Haw once, didn't he play Cripple Creek and tear it up out of G-C-D chord progression? Him And Buck Owens? I like Roy Clark on guitar, he plays in that real fast, sloppy, thin-pick sound, notes all jumbled together, sloppy and fuzzy. He has the Big Note songbook where you tape little stickie notes on your guitar fingerboard so you can play fast and sloppy along with him.

My son and I had the pleasure to see you perform with Peter Rowan and Mike Bub a couple of weeks ago at the NJ War Memorial in Trenton. I always leave your shows saying that it was a 'life affirming' event. That's how much pleasure I get from watching and listening to you play Tony. And thanks again for signing my mandolin! Anyway, if you want to see some photos from that show, I posted them FLICKR. Just search on photos by 'the marvelous 1' or http://www.flickr.com/photos/14935305@N07/
Wishing Tony, his family and fans all the best!
p.s. We would love to have more bluegrass artists visit New Jersey!

Tony Rice is the best dang guitar player I have ever heard in my life. Mr. Rice has made me want to learn and play guitar. I have only been playing for about three years, but he has made me keep playing and never give up. I wish the best to this wonderful young man. I pray that he plays for many many more years. I hope I can see him play one time though!! Keep on playing..theres no one better!

CJ, glad you enjoyed the Hazard show. However, I did not "miss out" as you put it. I've seen Richard and Don Rigsby multiple times as well as Tony. The show was a Tony Rice show, that's who I wanted to see. Just because we're complaining that we didn't see Tony, doesn't mean we're insulting Richard. How often is Tony in Kentucky? How often do Don or Richard play in KY? That's what I thought. I was waiting to buy my tickets at the door and so I did have to worry about a refund. Thanks to a friend that called that afternoon who told me it was cancelled, otherwise I wouldn't have known until I got there.
He cancelled. Ok. Things happen. Just because I didn't want to see Richard Bennett instead doesn't mean I'm dissing him.

Well, there are two more shows coming up in my area...Oct 11th in Trenton, NJ and Oct. 14th in Wilmington, Del. Based on TR's track record of not showing up, I am not buying tickets to either show.

I don't know who is talking ignorant about music or is flaming anyone. I don't have a thing against Richard and no one said anything bad about him. The show was billed as the Tony Rice Unit, not Don Rigsby and Richard. Just because they were available and offered to fill in, doesn't mean I should go and be happy about it. It's nothing against Don or Richard but I wanted to see Tony. I have more oppurtunities to see them than I do Tony. Chill out.

Enough with the FLAMES. Tony has continuing back issues that flare up from time to time. If you have nothing nice to say, please refrain from posting it here. We do appreciate the kindness and understanding of those who's posts are directed in a positive light. Let's face it, we are all LUCKY to have the opportunity to see and hear Mr. Tony Rice perform. And from time to time, we are not as lucky when the man has physical issues which require him to cancel a show. Play on Tony, we LOVE you!

Well Richard was nominated for a Grammy....he is an incredible player, singer song writer, and person. To insult him is ignorant seeing that he is a friend of Tony's and did a good thing to help that show go on. I went and it was an incredible show you missed out. Jeremy Garrett, sat in on fiddle (AMAZING) and Richard played his ass off. Think twice before you make ignorant statements about music....everyone has something to add and that opinion is not what bluegrass is all about--love for music!
