I am 69 years old, have been a bluegrass favorite for all my life. Acoustic guitar is my instrument of choice. I thought I had heard all the greats until I heard Tony. My accolades are small compared to those you have received. Never the less, you, above everyone else, are the best.
Your style is what I dream of playing. Look forward to seeing you some day.

I got to see Mr. Rice for the first time in years at SVCC in richlands VA a couple of years ago. I am still embarrassed for the crowd, but he signed my 33 1/3 copy of "skaggs and rice" its my most treasured item. I pray every day for God to bless Tony and to send me a little bit of the perfect voice he deemed fit to take away.

To all dedicated Tony Rice fans - concerning the "Bluegrass Hotel" concert - please see the "News and Press" page for correct information from Tony's representative, Keith Case.
Obviously, Tony was NEVER scheduled to play this show regardless of what the "promoter" is saying. It has NEVER appeared on Tony's tourdates page for that very reason.
Furthermore, I urge all upset fans to visit Sam Bush's website at http://www.sambush.com/ for Sam's take on the UNAUTHORIZED use of his name and image in promoting a bogus concert. You will find his lawyer's letter as well.
Here is a small snippet from Sam Bush's website: "To say this situation is out of control is a major understatement. The duplicity with which self-titled executive producer Bill Millet has and continues to conduct himself towards you the fans, the performers, vendors and participants of the Bluegrass Hotel Project has undermined the foundation, principal and loyalty of those involved."
We are very sorry to all fans that were duped, but PLEASE always check Tony's tourdates page for OFFICIAL show information.

Tony,
I enjoyed your show in Argyle, Texas. Thanks for signing my son, Lyle's, Baby Taylor and my mandolin. I last saw you play live in Nacogdoches around 1989. Don't make it so long to come back to Texas. Thanks for the joy you bring to playing music.

Seen you play several times in the DC area at the Birchmere, Wolf Trap & other appearances. Always put on a good show and were kind enough to speak with me an autograph a cassette.
Wish you & your family the best. Thanks for the kind Veteran's Day message. At least one veteran will keep you in his prayers.

Dear Tony, The first record I remember buying was your Tony Rice Guitar Album at a record store that used to be at the corner of Front and Putnam Streets in Marietta, OH. in the seventies. Like so many other people in the years since then, I have enjoyed your records and CD's and live performances in the Columbus,OH. area. Your music has been a true inspiration. I thought your message to all veterans, past and present was very respectfully stated. Thank You for all you have done for acoustic music and for Humanity. God Bless.

Well i gone and done it. Flew from Calgary Alberta Canada and the Rocky mountains to Washington DC, drove two hours to a buddies place near Charlottesville Virginia; then drove the five hours to Knoxville for the show with Mountain Heart. Awesome. The friendly folks seated around me figured I might never lose this stupid grin from getting to see my hero. You really are a treasure Tony. God Bless You. Dallas

I was born in 1950 and have played Guitar since I skipped out of a 7th grade math test. My brother introduced me to Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton, Gordon Lightfoot and a whole host of others. I played professionaly from 68 to 83 and to this day have never put the guitar down.. it is still my passion after all these years. I played mostly electric for the past several years but discovering your music and enormous talent has rekindled my love for acoustic music. I recently bought some of your DVDs from Homespun and I have thoroughly enjoyed them. Getting used to the feel is a real challenge. I hope you and yours are doing great and I hope yo catch one of your live shows in the not to distant future.... all the best, Bob

Tony,
I live in Melbourne, Australia. I've been a Gordon Lightfoot fan since the 1970s. (In Mar2008, I travelled to Wisconsin to see him in concert for the first time.) I discovered your music via Mike Daly's 18Jul1996 review in Melbourne newspaper The Age:
TONY RICE SINGS GORDON LIGHTFOOT
Tony Rice is one of the most accomplished, tasteful acoustic guitar pickers around, having played across the spectrum from "newgrass" to folk and jazz, with everyone from David Grisman and J D Crowe to Norman Blake and Emmylou Harris, as well as his own Tony Rice Unit. Over two decades, he's recorded a total of 16 Gordon Lightfoot songs. So here they all are, along with a superb, previously unreleased version of Whispers Of The North. Rice may carry less vocal power than Lightfoot, but the joy of this collection is its elegant instrumentals, alongside luminaries such as Crowe (banjo), Blake (guitar and mandolin), Jerry Douglas (dobro), Ricky Skaggs (mandolin), Vassar Clements and Sam Bush (violin), plus brothers Wyatt (guitar), Larry (mandolin and guitar) and Ron Rice (acoustic bass). You probably need to be a Lightfoot devotee to recognise many of the songs, apart from Early Morning Rain and Shadows, while The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald is delivered as a stark solo.
I bought that album and loved it and still regard it as one of my favourite half-a-dozen albums. I also bought and enjoyed "Tony Rice Plays And Sings Bluegrass". I have since got into Australia's bluegrass scene and they speak of you as a world leader in the craft. I was sorry to hear that you have had to give singing away, but I would jump at any chance to see your guitar playing in concert.
Dave B, Melbourne, Australia.
